Brighton Youth Orchestra String Ensemble -
 Saturday 24 February at 7pm

Announcing a performance by the Brighton Youth Orchestra String Ensemble with singers Megan Turvey, Nell Parry and Melanie Rattue.

VENUE: The Basement, Kensington Street, Brighton BN1 4AJ

For our first encore concert of 2018, we are delighted to be hosting
BYO String Ensemble at the Basement with a programme to appeal to all
ages, so bring friends and family and help us launch our concert

The ensemble will perform a selection of Finzi songs
with Megan Turvey as soloist. Until recently Megan was a member of the
National Youth Choir of Great Britain, and has sung solo many times
including some Taverner with the String Ensemble.  Megan is also a
fine saxophonist, leads BYO on the violin and is working on an art
foundation course at Greater Brighton Metropolitan College. 

our celebration of singing, the programme will also include the
gorgeous aria from the beginning of Act 3 in Mozart’s marriage of
Figaro. Our aria singers are Nell Parry, principal oboe for BYO and
Melanie Rattue, first violinist for BYO but for whom voice is her
principal instrument which she studies at Junior Trinity College of

Other works in the programme will be an eclectic mixture
of pieces, with the added twist of seeing the ensemble perform from
memory and sometimes with the lights dimmed right down. This first
happened some years ago when the ensemble was playing in Dieppe music
school and the lights failed….  It proved to be an atmospheric
performance, so we’ll be recreating a little of that magic at The

selected alcohol and soft drinks. For access, The Basement has a chair
lift down to the bar and ramp into the main performance space.  If
